La marcasite is a mineral stone, the Cristal de pyrite, used to enhance another stone, especially on silver mounts. The marcasite are cut in a round or square shape and crimped to form a paving that shines like small diamonds.
The name of marcasite comes from the Greek and means fire. It brings a shiny metallic luster quite specific.
La marcasite was much appreciated at the time of England Victorian then we find a lot in the style of jewelry 20 years. It is still very much used today for the ornamentation of silver jewels to which it brings an aspect "old jewel" or / and precious in all the cases.
